Vallikannan is the pseudonym of the popular writer R.S. Krishnaswamy. He was born in a town close Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu on 12 November 1920 and passed on 9 November 2006. He was a celebrated Tamil essayist, writer, columnist, critic and translator. He began writing at an exceptionally young age and had published 25 books when he turned thirty. He wrote a sum of 75 books throughout his life. He wrote books, poetry collections, plays and essays. He was given the Sahitya Akademi award in 1978, for his critical work on modern Tamil poetry.
